In my
recent entry on the press and police's skrieking over the guerrila marketing for the cartoon
Aqua Teen Hunger Force, I wondered aloud why it only seemed to be Boston that saw these artistic signs as an emergency. Police in Seattle thought the signs were "so obviously not suspicious". Thus, there were no traffic disruptions or alarm bells ringing in the Emerald City.
From the
Oregonian:
Police in Seattle and nearby communities found the devices Wednesday and took them.
“We haven’t had any calls to 911 regarding this,” police spokesman Sean P. Whitcomb told the Associated Press Wednesday.
“To us, they’re so obviously not suspicious,” King County sheriff’s Sgt. John Urquhart said. “They’re not suspicious devices or packages. We don’t consider them dangerous.”
“In this day and age, whenever anything remotely suspicious shows up, people get concerned — and that’s good,” Urquhart said. “However, people don’t need to be concerned about this. These are cartoon characters giving the finger.”
(I've been a fan of Aqua Teen Hunger Force for years, by the way.)
